Photos and Story by

PORTLAND, Ore. – Art Media, in partnership with Portland Community College, brings students three opportunities this spring to experience art in a whole new way. Sign up for one or all of these unique classes and get ready to let your creativity unfold.

The classes will meet from 10 a.m. to 3:50 p.m., Saturdays, April 29, May 13 and June 3, at the Whitmarsh Building, 803 S.W. Morrison St. Cost, per class, is $80. Topics will include:

Essential Acrylics Techniques (April 29). Investigate gesso, grounds and the surfaces we work on. Discover the secrets to cleanly mixing color as you explore delicate transparent glazes, watercolor-like washes and impasto applications.

Seductive Surface and New Pigment Palettes (May 13). Take part in painting grounds and color theory. Examine absorption and lift of hues from gritty to the most gracious of grounds. Class will use brush in three different color palettes to experience the color interactions.

Mono-Print with Golden Acrylics (June 3). Focus on innovative, nontoxic techniques to enable printing without a press. Paint on a plexi-glass plate and explore personal imagery, composition, color, line, form and texture, as well as “hand-rubbing” and the “pull of the print.”
