Davis honored with Idaho State’s Professional Achievement Award

Marilyn Davis, interim Dean of Instruction at the Southeast Center, will be honored with a Professional Achievement Award by her alma mater Idaho State University.

This May, Davis is among ten other alumni to be recognized by the school for making important contributions to their careers or profession, to the social, political or economic well-being of the world around them and have shown continued community and civic involvement in addition to their association with and contributions to Idaho State. In the past, Davis has been recognized for her contributions to education from the American Association of Community Colleges, National Council of Instructional Administrators, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Oregon Vocational Leadership Development program and the Oregon Community College leadership program.

Davis, originally from Pocatello, Idaho, earned her bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University in Home Economics Education in 1969 and has been in the education field her entire career. She eventually earned a master’s degree and doctorate in Education from Oregon State University. Her career began as a teacher in Wood River High School in Idaho and then Redmond High School and Albany Public schools in Oregon. Most of her administrative career was in various positions within the Oregon system.

After working as an intern at Umpqua Community College, Davis served as a program development consultant for Oregon Community Colleges at Lane Community College; staff development specialist and faculty at Oregon State University; regional coordinator for Multnomah County Education Service District; director of vocational program operations for the Oregon Department of Education; dean of Professional Technical Programs at Central Oregon Community College; and Dean of Instruction at the Rock Creek Campus.

In addition, she was a member of the Office of the Idaho State Board of Education management team. From 2006-2011, Davis worked as the dean of the College of Technology at Idaho State University and retired from that position. In 2013, she was asked to serve as the Interim Dean of Instruction for the Southeast Center.
