PORTLAND – Oregon Children’s Theatre (OCT) celebrates its 10th anniversary with its season opener, Anne of Green Gables, a holiday treat for the whole family. Anne of Green Gables opens Friday, Nov. 28, and runs weekends through Dec. 19 at the Performing Arts Center on Portland Community College’s Sylvania Campus, 12000 S. W. 49th Ave.
Anne of Green Gables, the classic by L.M. Montgomery, was first published in 1908. The story, set on Canada’s Prince Edward Island, tells of the Cuthberts of Green Gables, who decide to adopt an orphan – a nice sturdy boy – to help with the farm chores. They get a surprise when Anne, a mischievous, talkative redhead, is sent by the orphanage instead.
At 90 minutes with a 15-minute intermission, it is recommended for families with children four and older.
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays from Nov. 28 through Dec. 19. Reserved seats are $17 for adults and $14 for children and seniors. Tickets are available from OCT’s box office, 228-9571 or Ticketmaster outlets, 790-ARTS (2787). Group discounts available. Sign-interpreted performances will be Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. Special services for disabled patrons upon request.
The Anne of Green Gables cast includes Linda Hayden as Anne Shirley, Michael Zimmerman as Matthew Cuthbert, and Georgia Cacy as Marilla Cuthbert.
OCT asks patrons to bring a toy to Anne of Green Gables. Toys will be presented at the 7 p.m. performance on Dec. 14 to Albertina Kerr, Edgefield Children’s Center, Janus Youth Programs and the Morrison Center, organizations servicing at-risk youth and families.
