PCC Seeks Candidates for Board of Directors Vacancy

Photos and story by

The Portland Community College Board of Directors is seeking nominations to fill a vacancy on the board.

The vacancy in Zone 3 exists as a result of the death of board member Roger Buchanan. The person selected would serve on the board until June 2001, and would then run for office in March 2001 for a term through 2003.

The person appointed must live in Zone 3, which is on the eastern border of PCC’s district. It extends roughly from the Multnomah-Clackamas County border in the south to the Columbia River in the north, and from I-205 in the east to Northeast and Southeast 45th (with a few jogs east and west) to the west. To confirm that you are a resident of Zone 3, contact the Multnomah County Elections Office at 248-3720.

The seven-member PCC Board is responsible for the budget and overall governance and policy direction of the college. Board meetings are generally held the first and third Thursdays of the month. Members receive no pay for serving on the board.

Those interested in being appointed to fill the vacancy should call the Public Affairs Office at 977-4374 to request an application packet. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 at 5 p.m.
