Media Advisory: PCC and Friends Dedicate Tree Trail at Rock Creek
Photos and story by James Hill
What: Dedication of the Rock Creek Tree Trail, followed by a walk through the tree trail. The dedication and walk are open to the public. The trail is a self-guided tree identification tour on the PCC Rock Creek Campus. The tour will help educate people on how to select the right tree for a given landscape. The trail is approximately 1.5 miles long. When: June 1, 2001, noon.Where: The trailhead is located at the entry to the campus, near the campus directory. Rock Creek Campus is located at 17705 N.W. Springville Road, off the Sunset Highway at the 185th exit. Who: Loren Radford, a PCC Landscape Technology instructor, and Bridget Shaw, an International Society of Arboriculture certified arborist garnered a Community Forestry Assistance Grant from the Oregon Department of Forestry to develop the project. "People don’t always have time for formal coursework in tree care and identification,"said Shaw. "This project, for example, will help people to easily learn what trees do well in confined spaces, such as narrow planting strips or under utility wires. The trail also provides a visual demonstration of a tree’s growth characteristics. It’s an excellent opportunity for an informal education."
