PCC-Rock Creek Powwow Planned for June 1

ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – Native culture and ceremony will highlight a day of fun at Portland Community College. PCC hosts the annual Rock Creek Campus powwow from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 1 in the campus gymnasium, 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The first grand entry will begin at 1 p.m. and the second at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.Vince Wannassay, an elder in the Umatilla tribe, will serve as the powwow’s whipman. Harold Paul, from the Nez Perce tribe, will be the event’s announcer. The Northwest Indian Veterans Association will serve as the color guard for the grand entries. Bow and Arrow Culture Club will provide the concessions stand including Indian Fry Bread. The Bow and Arrow Culture Club’s membership is from a variety of tribes in the Portland Vancouver area.
