ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – Are you hungry for some fun and entertaining music in the great outdoors? Then Portland Community College has a month-long musical event that should quench any entertainment thirst. PCC is hosting Hot August Nights from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday, Aug. 2 through Aug. 30, in the commons at the picturesque Rock Creek Campus, located at 17705 N.W. Springville Road. The event is free of charge. The lineup of music includes salsa music with Ramsey y Montunos on Aug. 2; jazz music featuring The Jazz Tones on Aug. 9; marimba band KuKuVa on Aug. 16; reggae band Rhythm Culture on Aug. 23; and swing music with Johnny Martin Live on Aug. 30. "The students wanted to bring people on campus during the summer and have a way to reach out to the community,"said Mandy Ellertson, Student Leadership coordinator at Rock Creek. "Hopefully this will be a yearly thing. We have put posters up around the community and the college, and have encouraged instructors to tell their students. We’re really looking forward to hosting great music on the campus and hope people come out and enjoy the outdoor flavor of this event."People attending should bring a blanket to sit on the grass. Also, PCC will have barbecue grills available for people wanting to cook their own food. For more information, contact Ellertson at 503-614-7261.The event was planned and developed by the Associated Students of PCC. In all, 10 volunteers put together the event, eight students and two staff members.
