Pearl District class features art of glass fusion

PORTLAND, Ore. – Immerse yourself in the hip, fashion-forward atmosphere of the Pearl District while you learn one of its favorite artistic mediums. Portland Community College will offer Introduction to Fused Glass this summer – a hands-on, non-credit workshop that lets you create your own glass art pieces.Instructor Walt Barnett will offer students the basics to begin experimenting with fused glass: practice in cutting, breaking, using hand tools, and safety skills. Students will design and create a fused glass tile."This is a great opportunity to see the method behind many of the gorgeous glass pieces you see in galleries around the Pearl District,"says Ann Van Orman, PCC Community Education manager. The three-hour workshop will be offered from 6 to 9 p.m. two times this term: Thursday, June 26, and Thursday, Aug. 7. Both classes will be held at Gallery 33, 1400 N.W. Everett Street.
