German Language Classes for Beginners and Travelers

HILLSBORO, Ore. – Portland Community College is offering two non-credit, 10-week German language classes this fall at Glencoe High School, 2700 N.W. Glencoe Road.German Conversation Beginning: Term I will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Monday, Oct. 1. German for Travelers will meet Wednesdays, beginning Oct. 3. Class will not meet on Nov. 12 and 21. The cost for each class is $63. The conversation class introduces students to German with an emphasis on formal and structural patterns in the language. Upon completion of the class, students should be able to communicate in German on a variety of everyday topics. The class for travelers provides a basic overview of the German language and of Germany, including its history, people and customs. Beginning German students and future travelers to Germany will gain practical information on social norms in Germany and should also be able to communicate in German on a variety of everyday topics. The instructor for both classes is Florance Deutsch-Timmons. The required text is "German in 10 Minutes a Day"by Kristine Kershul.
