PCC offers horse camp for kids this summer

NEWBERG, Ore. – This summer, give your kids a positive activity by getting them off the couch and onto the back of a horse. Portland Community College will offer Daily Horse Camp for Kids 8-16, a non-credit program empowering kids with skills in horsemanship.Instructor Laurie Ross offers a full week of fun lessons in the care, feeding and grooming of one of nature’s most beautiful animals. Kids will learn basic horsemanship skills including horse psychology and communicating with body language. Designed for ages eight to 16 of all skill levels, kids will get the personal chance to exercise, ride and handle daily horse and stable care. "Communicating with animals is one of the true pleasures of life, and this camp offers kids lifelong skills,"says Tsipora Dimant, PCC Community Education manager. "If your kids love horses, this is a way you can make their dreams a reality while giving them confidence in themselves. It’s a great way to spend a summer week."The runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will be offered three times this summer: June 23 through June 27; July 14 through July 18; and Aug. 18 through Aug. 22. All classes will be held at Sonette Stables, 22955 N.E. Valley Road in Newberg. Cost is $249. Kids are asked to bring lunch, long pants, boots with heels, and a bike helmet.For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-538-9774.
