PCC 58th in degrees by community colleges

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Community College ranks 58th in the nation in the number of associate’s degrees earned by students and remains No. 1 in that category in the state of Oregon.The information is from analysis by the Community College Week publication of U.S. Department of Education data. In 2001-02, PCC distributed 1,203 associate’s degrees, up by 2 percent from last year. The top-five degree-earning community colleges included Miami-Dade (4,422) and Valencia (3,626) in Florida, Nassau (2,876) in New York, Salt Lake (2,556) in Utah and Broward (2,534), also in Florida.Also, PCC ranked 48th in the country in associate’s degrees earned by Asian Americans with 125, up by 10 percent. In addition, the college ranked 52nd in non-minority degree-seekers and 45th in degrees earned in the health and sciences fields.Portland Community College, the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon, serves students at three comprehensive campuses, four workforce centers and offers classes at 200 sites in its five-county, 1,500-square-mile district.
