New Deans Welcomed to PCC Campuses

PORTLAND, Ore. – Four new division deans will take over leadership roles at several departments this summer at Portland Community College. The Science and Physical Education Division of the Sylvania Campus welcomed David Goldberg, a resident of southwest Portland, as its new dean in July. In addition to holding a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Goldberg brings to the college a wealth of business and community service leadership experience. For the past three years, following a career as a CEO and president in the health care industry, he worked as a consultant assisting healthcare and nonprofit organizations in the areas of strategic planning, business analysis, mergers and organizational development.David Stout of northeast Portland is the new Sylvania Campus division dean of English and Modern Languages, beginning duties on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Stout joins the college after a 13-year career at Pacific University where he was the associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds a doctorate in German literature from Cornell University.Margie Fyfield, who started in early July, is the new Rock Creek Campus dean of the Science and Technology Division. Fyfield, a resident of southeast Portland, has a bachelor’s degree in physics with a minor in mathematics and a doctorate in physics. She was a teaching assistant in the physics program while in graduate school, and Portland State University also employed her as a research associate for two years. Fyfield was an engineer at LSI Logic in Gresham before accepting the position at PCC.Stuart Savin is the new division dean for Math, Manufacturing, and Transportation at the Rock Creek Campus and will officially begin his tenure on Monday, Aug. 13. Savin received a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from the University of Connecticut and a master’s degree in educational administration from State University of New York. He is currently working on his doctorate at Oregon State University. Savin has been the associate dean of instruction in the technical education division at South Seattle Community College for the past two years. From 1994-99 he was the department coordinator for an automotive technology program at Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York.
