ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – Dolores Galindo, technician for the Rock Creek Veterinary Technology Program, was appointed as the first veterinary technician to serve on the Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board. The Oregon Veterinary Medical Exam board executive director invited Galindo to apply for the board position.Galindo, a resident of Gresham, received a personal letter from Gov. Kulongoski informing her of the appointment, thanking her for her willingness to serve. "Dolores is very excited and sees this as an excellent opportunity to be instrumental in representing veterinary technicians on legislative issues and new rulings, which could directly affect technicians as they practice in their profession,"said Margie Fyfield, division dean of Science and Technology at Rock Creek. The Office of the Governor accepted her application and her name was submitted to the Senate for confirmation. Galindo’s term began Nov. 1. Serving on the Board is an unpaid position requiring attendance at six yearly meetings of the board. The Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board is a group of seven members appointed by the governor for a term of four years. Members customarily serve two terms. Five members must be veterinarians licensed in Oregon to practice veterinary medicine, surgery and dentistry and two members are citizens.
