Parenting Plus Lecture Series Set in Tualatin

TUALATIN, Ore. – Experts in the field of child development will share the latest information on parenting during a seven-part Parenting Plus lecture series being offered this fall by Portland Community College.All lectures in the free series, co-sponsored by PCC and the Tualatin Public Library, will be held on Wednesdays at the library, 18880 S.W. Martinazzi Ave. Participants may register for the entire non-credit series or attend individual sessions.The opening lecture will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Consecutive lectures will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.The series begins Sept. 26 with Children’s Brain Development: Why the Early Years Matter. Presenters are Nancy Jambor, a specialist in human development from Pacific Oaks College, and Roberta Recken, M.Ed., from Bank Street College. Positive Discipline of Children will be presented Oct. 10 by Jacci Jones, a marriage and family therapist at a community mental health center in Portland. The Oct. 17 session, titled Nutrition for the Developing Brain, will be led by Dr. Gary Weiner, a naturopathic physician who specializes in treating children.The series continues Oct. 24 with How to Prepare for a School Conference. The presenter is Karen McCord, M.S.W., who works for Network Behavorial Healthcare. Building Relationships with Your Teenagers will be discussed during the Nov. 14 session, to be led by Ingrid Schuiteoerder, Ph.D., a counselor in private practice who offers classes in the United States, Australia, Russia and India. Karen Pitzen, a clinical social worker at Emanual Hospital, will present How to Discuss Sex with your Children on Nov. 28. The series concludes Tuesday, Dec. 4 with Family Problem Solving.
