PORTLAND, Ore. – If you’re one of the many people who feels a sense of anxiety when the waiter asks for your wine selection, Portland Community College has a non-credit class for you. Wine Appreciation for Beginners can help you master the secrets of wine appreciation and you need never be intimidated by a wine steward again. An industry veteran will work with you to pick up all the tricks of the wine trade. Students will get step-by-step assistance on beginning a home collection, throwing a wine tasting party, and ordering wines to complement any meal. "Save yourself the embarrassment I felt when I ordered the ?yellow wine’ at my first wine tasting,"read a recent student evaluation. "This course gave me everything I needed online to feel confident about exploring our region’s great varietals publicly." Held entirely on line via the Internet, the six-week class offers the flexibility to open lessons whenever your schedule allows and features discussion boards with the instructor and other students. The class will be offered three times this summer: June 16 through July 23, July 21 through Aug. 27, or Aug. 18 through Sept. 24. Cost is $79.
