Photos and story by James Hill
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – This summer, why not take advantage of Oregon’s scenic waterways by experiencing the thrill and adventure of kayaking? An upcoming non-credit White Water Kayaking class offered by Portland Community College will teach you the skills and get you out on the water fast. Instructor Dave Wright will lead White Water Kayaking, suitable for the outdoor-minded adventurer as well as beginners. Students will learn essential skills needed to head out on the water: skill building, control of the boat, paddling strokes, turning, wet exit, safety skills and the Eskimo roll. Classes are held in an indoor pool. The class will be offered twice this summer: from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, June 21 through July 19, or from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, June 23 through July 14. Both five-week classes will be held at the pool in Lake Oswego High School, 2501 Country Club Road. Cost is $109 which includes all equipment. Students are asked to bring nose clips.
