PCC hosts open houses for upcoming May special election

With an unprecedented number of Portland Community College Board of Directors seats on the ballot for the May 21 special election, PCC is hosting two open houses for interested parties. The open houses are for anyone interested in learning more about what is involved with becoming an elected board member.
The schedule includes:
- 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19.
- 10-11:30 a.m., Friday, March 5.
Hosts for these events include Chair Mohamed Alyajouri (Zone 6), Vice Chair Tiffani Penson (Zone 2), Secretary Denise Frisbee (Zone 1) and President Mark Mitsui. There are five PCC Board seats on the ballot for the May election. The seats on the ballot include:
- Zone 1: boundaries (incumbent not seeking reelection);
- Zone 4: boundaries;
- Zone 5: boundaries;
- Zone 6: boundaries;
- Zone 7: boundaries; for a 2-year unexpired term. (No incumbent, due to a change of residency for current board member).
The PCC Board of Directors consists of seven members elected by zones to four-year terms. Board members govern the college, which includes selecting the president, approving the college budget, and establishing policies that govern the operation of the college.
