PCC Workforce Center Slated as One-Stop

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Community College Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center, located at 5600 N.E. 42nd Ave., will host an open house showcasing its workforce development services and to celebrate its designation as the "Metro One-Stop."The open house is from 3 to 6 p.m., on Tuesday, March 20. The Metro One-Stop designation means the community and businesses can access extensive employment and training services. The training center provides job search assistance, job placement, short-term training, employer services, and other workforce development services to assist job seekers in obtaining and retaining employment.

Some of these partners include: Adult and Family Services, Mt. Hood Community College, worksystems, inc., Oregon Employment Department, Housing Authority of Portland, Insights Teen Parent Program, Mt. Hood Mental Health and the Labor’s Community Services Agency.

The Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center also houses:

Steps to Success Program: Provides employment and training services to help recipients of public assistance enter the workforce.

Dislocated Worker Project: This project helps people who have lost their jobs through downsizing or layoff, get back to work, including displaced homemakers.

Oregon Tradeswomen’s Network: Assists women, minorities and men to gain employment in skilled occupations and non-traditional fields.

College Bound Program: Offers the opportunity to work toward a high school diploma in a career area of study, a Certificate of Advance Master (CAM), and an associate’s degree in a career area of one’s interests and abilities.

Community Education: Provides non-credit and career enhancement classes designed for adults, during the evening or on weekends. Courses range from special art workshops to karate, small business classes, professional development seminars and workshops.

The Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center also has announced extended hours on Tuesday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information about the open house or the Metro One-Stop, contact the Portland Metropolitan Workforce Training Center at 503-943-2000.
