PCC Fair to Showcase World of Technology

SYLVANIA CAMPUS – Portland Community College will host Technology Fair 2001, featuring local industry representatives, technology showcases, demonstrations and panel discussions about careers for women, as well as advice from PCC staff and faculty about computer degrees, certificates and choosing a major. The fair will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, April 20 in the upper mall of the College Center Building on the Sylvania Campus, located at 12000 S.W. 49th Ave."It’s designed to showcase the role of technology in the world of work,"said Jeff Triplett, division dean of Business and Industrial Technology at PCC. "There will be opportunities to visit with a dozen or more representatives from select businesses and industries. Mini classes that explore technology will run concurrently with exciting competitions. Following these, there are tours of departments and technology demonstrations."Some of the events include a build-a-bridge competition with prizes for participants, straw bale and solar building, egg drops, and plenty of information on automotive, civil, software and electronic engineering, computer applications and information systems, drafting, industry certification and machine technology. Employer displays will be set up in the upper mall area while PCC program displays will be located in the lower mall.
