National Community College Group Selects PCC Executive

SYLVANIA CAMPUS – Alice Jacobson, executive dean of Portland Community College’s Sylvania Campus, has been awarded the American Association of Women in Community Colleges President of the Year distinction. AAWCC is the largest caucus of the American Association of Community Colleges and represents women on community college staffs and boards across the country. Jacobson was given a plaque in her honor at the annual AAWCC breakfast in Chicago, Ill., on Friday, April 6.

"I was thrilled and surprised,"Jacobson said of learning of her honor. "It is amazingly flattering to receive this.

Jacobson came to the Sylvania Campus in 1991 to oversee a campus of 24,000 students and a budget of $29 million. The campus is located between Tigard and Lake Oswego in southwest Portland and is PCC’s largest campus. Before becoming one of three executive deans at PCC, she was the vice president for planning and development for the college between 1988-91 where she led the district planning process. Jacobson has been involved with numerous community boards and committees and professional development organization throughout her career and has been integral to development of such Sylvania Campus events as Art Beat, the Winter Native American Powwow and the raising of the 30-foot totem pole, to name a few. Jacobson is a resident of northeast Portland.
