Northview Gallery welcomes ‘The Lens Show’

Photos and story by

This October the Northview Gallery at the Sylvania Campus is hosting the exhibit, “The Lens Show.” Based on the concepts of the lens, the show emerged from the collaborative discussions of a loose-knit group of Northwest stone carvers.

'Starry Night' by Stuart Jacobson.

One of the featured artists Chris Cassimatis introduced a collection of telescope lenses he acquired while working on a project in Texas where each artist was given a lens to incorporate and transform in some way.  The exhibition has since expanded to include artists working with lenses in an array of media including stone, wood, bronze, food, video and found objects.

In addition to Cassimatis, participating artists include, Kate Ali, Laura Alpert, Michael Creger, Ryan Healy, Richard Hestekind, Stuart Jacobson, Dan Michael, David P. Miller, Theresa Redinger, Marie Sivak and Tom Urban.  The exhibition opens Thursday, Oct. 4 and concludes Thursday, Nov. 4, with an artist talk and closing reception (2:00 PM in the Gallery).

The Northview Gallery is located in Room 214, CT Building, Sylvania Campus. It is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, contact gallery curator Mark Smith at: msmith@pcc.edu
