Deep Reads from Contemporary Fiction Writers

Campus contacts

In this writing-meets-craft class we'll explore fiction narratives through generative writing prompts, close reads of stories and novel bits, and sharing excerpts and themes from our own work. The goal is to have a clear way to edit and strengthen your work.

In this class we'll read excerpts from some of the best contemporary fiction out there and ask ourselves: what makes this story or scene good? What seeds did the writer plant early on in the story to help make their endings have a stronger impact? Each class session will include a writing prompt related to the story we're looking at. There is no outside reading require for this class, but suggested reading lists will be offered, along with PDFs of all stories and excerpts.
