STARS Annual Review
Posted by Melissa Aaberg
The STARS 2014 Annual Review highlights recent sustainability innovations and best practices from over 100 colleges and universities worldwide.
The publication features 105 higher education institutions that earned a STARS rating this year, representing institutions in the United States, Canada, Ecuador, Japan, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
Some notable trends identified in the publication include an increase this year in reports submitted from Associate’s and Baccalaureate colleges, and an increase in average scores within subsequent STARS reports.
Portland Community College’s STARS rating improved from Bronze in 2012 to Silver in 2013, with significant progress made in air and climate initiatives. The college’s most recent greenhouse gas emissions inventory details out the impact of supply chain emissions – a methodology that has not been used by any other community college to date!
