First 2015 Work Party at the Sylvania Campus! (Feb 7)
Posted by Holly Talkington
When: Saturday February 7th, 2015 9am to noon
Where: Meet at PCC Sylvania Parking Lot 10 (The most northeast parking lot kitty corner to the bookstore.) Cicada Zayda and other volunteers will meet you here and walk you to Lesser Park (an adjacent city of Portland park).
What: Remove tree ivy on EVERY tree in Lesser Park! Lifesavers for all! (A lifesaver is cutting tree ivy at eye level and removing ivy down to the ground to save the tree’s life!) We will meet and work with Mary Verrilli, stewardship coordinator of Portland Parks & Recreation. Yay! Partnerships!
Why: To get outside! To do some good environmental work! To restore habitat in favor of native Oregon species! To take care of our own park! To have fun! To get dirty! To apply what we’re learning in class to a real-world project!
Special Requests: Please dress appropriately for the weather! Do not come if you are sick! Be prepared to get muddy and dirty, but to feel accomplished and happy! Wear clothes appropriate for the weather and for working outside! Closed toed shoes, long pants, and sleeves are recommended. Weeding is a great work out and fun to do with study buddies, too! Bring a water bottle and we will have some coffee and snacks.
