He has designed and developed a number of cutting edge, award-winning buildings including the Box + One Lofts, the Ode to Roses Building, the Rocket Building, and The Ocean. Flexhouse
Flexhouse: Shou Sugi Ban Siding
Shou-sugi ban–also known as Yakisugi–is a traditional Japanese technique for treating siding that was used on the Flexhouse in Portland, Oregon. This video features the home’s owner Ajna Lichau and Ray Anthony Barrett talking about their decision to use and their process for implementing this technique. The house was designed by Michele Jeresek (Architect, Departure Design, www.departure-design.com) and built by JRA Greenbuilding.

Flexhouse: Building Envelope
The Flexhouse in Portland, Oregon was framed in part to reduce the quantity of lumber while maintaining building strength and allowing for high insulation levels. Triple-paned windows were installed and the building was tightly air-sealed to increase the building’s energy performance. In this video, Darrell Arnold and Geno Faes highlight some of the features of the building envelope of the Flexhouse. The house was designed by Michele Jeresek (Architect, Departure Design, www.departure-design.com) and built by JRA Greenbuilding.

Flexhouse: Lime and Clay Plaster
For thousands of years, lime and clay plaster have been used to finish walls. In the early 1800’s however, the lime in plaster was mostly replaced by Portland cement and lime plaster became much less common. The use of clay plaster is also uncommon, but both materials are experiencing something of a revival, including in the Flexhouse in Portland, Oregon.
In this video, Sukita Crimmel (Manager, Traditional Natural Plaster Company, describes the application of lime and clay plaster in the Flexhouse. The house was designed by Michele Jeresek (Architect, Departure Design, www.departure-design.com) and built by JRA Greenbuilding.
Stoffel House: Green Home
The Stoffel family rebuilt their small, older home in Portland, Oregon to be more energy efficient and comfortable with an eye towards sustainable practices, techniques and technologies. In this video, Markus Stoffel talks about some of the decisions behind the rebuild and shows some highlights. The Stoffel family are members of the neighborhood group, the “Ainsworth Collective.”

Craig and Sybil Kelley live with their daughters in Portland, Oregon and are members of the “Ainsworth Collective” neighborhood group. In this video, the members of the Kelley family talk about the sustainable aspects of their home and lifestyle as well as some of the challenges.
Whitridge Full Plane House: Landscape
The Whitridge Full Plane house was completed in 2012 and is a net-zero water and energy house. The house was designed by Michele Jeresek at Architect, Departure Design and built by JRA Greenbuilding. Cully Grove: HRV/Heat Recovery Ventilator Installation
Cully Grove is a new co-housing development in NE Portland Oregon. The homes feature a variety of HVAC features, but because they are tightly built, each home is outfitted with an HRV (heat recovery ventilator) . In this video, HVAC technicians Jason Rose and Matt Curtis with Imagine Energy, LLC offer insights and tips as they install one of the HRVs.
